Intimacy with the unwanted within you

There is such a natural longing for intimacy with another, which has been wired into your miracle neurons and the consecrated pathways of your precious nervous system. "I want to share the journey," you call out, "to give and receive love, and travel with a sacred friend into the wild terrain of the heart." You are ready to unlock the sacred vessel and swim deeply in that ocean where two hearts merge as one. For in this holy water it is revealed that you and the beloved have been inside one another all along.

In response to this most primordial cry, sadness rushes onto the scene, disheveled and ripping off her gown: "But when will you become intimate with me?" Loneliness arrives next, tearing her hair out: "Yes, me, too!" Rage, despair, grief, confusion, and shame—they all line up for their turn, pleading to accompany you into the bedroom of loving presence. These ones are also seeking union and the light of your tender holding and awareness.

You will never be able to be more intimate with another than you are with the unwanted within you. It is to the degree that you provide a holding container and crucible for the darkness and the light that you will be able to touch the mysteries of love that are being offered by the beloved at all times. If you will create a sanctuary of wholeness where all is welcome, you will discover him or her resting inside you, wired into your cell tissue, your organs, and into the wild and alive light strands of your very DNA.
